8th March 2012 – Tasca d’Almerita Vineyards
It’s with a lovely breakfast than Antonio was waiting for me at the dining room of the “Bagleo”.We started with a quick chat about the history of Sicily. I have learned, Sicily was the first place with Calabria to make wine in Italy which is interesting to me,who originates from “Normandie”, Sicily has been belonging to the “Normand” people for a while…
During that time Joseph Tasca joined us. It was an honor for me to meet one of the two brother owners of the winery and part of the 7th generation of the Tasca Family. A very simple person who talked with a lot of passion.
Antonio and I took the car and went for a trip in the vineyard. Unfortunately the weather was still very bad, my pictures can tell you. But even though, the view still spectacular.
Yes it’s like I thought the day before, that place is “lost” in the perfect middle of Sicily, and there is just nothing around there. Hills and lakes with olives trees everywhere, altogether with the vineyard, it’s gorgeous.
Tasca d’Almerita… it’s “just” a huge propriety of 540 ha all over Sicily, they separated those in 5 different wineries:
- Tasca d’Almerita, Fondazione whitaker
- Sallier de la Tour
- Tenuta Regaleali
- Tascante
- Capofaro
So I begin my tasting…click here for my Tasca d’Almerita tasting notes.
